Sig Alph’s Defeat Wally Do’s

It was a heated match up last night at the University of Colorado Recreation Center. And despite some grueling effort on the part of the Wally Do’s, the Sig Alph’s managed to hold on for a 3-1 victory.

Things got going early as the Sig Alph’s scored two goals in the first period. And the intensity was upped a few notches when a fight broke out between Wally Do’s forward Chase Gordon and the Sig Alph’s goaltender. Gordon slid into the keeper after getting tripped up on a breakaway attempt, and evidently the keeper felt Gordon could have avoided the collision. Gloves and helmets came off, and a storm of punches was exchanged between the two. Gordon received a five minute major for fight instigation, and the Wally Do’s were forced to go on the defensive for a stretch. They kept it together, however, and maintained a deficit of only two as the buzzer rang to signal the end of the 1st period.

Midway through the 2nd, the Sig Alph’s scored a third consecutive goal, and things were looking grim for the Wally Do’s. However, rising to the occasion minutes later was defensemen Henrik Lampert, who answered by showing some Bobby Orr-like talent as he sailed coast-to-coast, wheeling and dealing around the opposition. Ultimately he was 1-on-1 with the goalie and pulled a sensational deek move to earn the Wally Do’s first point of the night.

The goal gave the Wally Do’s some momentum, and they came out firing in the 3rd. Some solid stops by the Sig Alph’s goaltender prevented the Wally Do’s from gaining any ground.

And with just under seven minutes to go in the game, forward John Jurewicz laid a heavy punch into the face of an oncoming defender, dropping him instantly to the ground. Jurewicz was ejected from the game, and the Wally Do’s were faced with another five minutes of shorthanded play.

Despite being down a man, the Wally Do’s gave it their all in the final minutes. Many fans were brought to their feet in disbelief as two open-net shots sailed wide of the goal mouth. They continued to dig deep as the clock ran down, tapping into their reserve tanks for some extra fuel, but their efforts were in vain.

The Wally Do’s manager had this to say after the game: “We definitely didn’t play poorly tonight… in fact I was pretty pleased with our effort. We could have done a better job of working the puck in the offensive zone. We really need to do a better job of opening some space down there, and I think if we had done that we could have probably put a few more pucks past their goalie. The Sig Alph’s played very well, and I think it was good four our guys to see what they’ll need to bring to the table later in the season if we want to succeed.”

The Wally Do’s square off next against the league leading Iceholes; it will be their last regular season game. The puck drops Tuesday April 6th @ 9:45 PM at the University of Colorado Recreation Center.

Game Day: Wally Do’s v. Sig Alph’s

The Low Down: The Wally Do’s are feeling fast and fresh after a two-week break. All team members laced up for morning skate today, and I must say they’re looking hot-to-trot. Tonight, they take on the Greek sensation, the Sig Alph’s and they’re looking to extend their winning streak.

Team Scope: The Wally Do’s now stand 2-0 on the season, and their confidence is at an all time high. A few of the team’s veterans have indicated to the press that it might perhaps be their final year playing in the league; knowing this, they’re hungry to win the championship at the end of the season.

The Sig Alph’s are 0-2 thus far, and sit in 6th place position. Their coach has indicated that the team is feeling anxious, and he is hoping they can channel their frustration tonight and earn their first win. “We’ve played well the last few games, and were unfortunate to have had some bad bounces. We need to take control tonight, and get ourselves some points. We definitely don’t want to head into the playoffs sitting at the bottom of the bracket.”

Injury Report: Henrik Lampert is questionable for tonight’s game as he suffered a laundry list of injuries in a ski accident while vacationing in Maine. The team’s coach has publicly expressed his displeasure with Lampert, remarking, “I’ve expressed to these guys time and time again that skiing during the season is totally off-limits. I can’t tell you how many guys I’ve coached over the years that have suffered knee injuries on the slopes… it’s just stupid, and Lampert knows he will be doing extra sprints for me as soon as he’s feeling well. I’ve also asked the management to consider fining him.”

Fan Zone: As always, The Wally Do’s want to see you in the stands tonight. Admission is free, the action is mind-blowing and it’s a perfect way to pre-game for Babe Appreciation Night which takes place every Tuesday at the world famous Goose Bar located at 1301 North Broadway Street. The puck drops at 9:35 PM MST at the University of Colorado Recreation Center.

Wally Do’s Upset Goon Squad

The Wally Do’s came out guns blazing last evening, and skated their way to a 7-5 victory over the Goon Squad. After the game, we caught up with star forward Chase Gordon who was instrumental to the team’s win:

HL.COM: So Chase, you scored a hat-trick tonight, that’s gotta feel pretty darn good.

CG: Ah-ha, cheaaa! You know it, dawg! We didn’t know what to expect from this team coming into the game… but when we saw that it was a bunch of dudes and chicks who were CU Club Team athletes, we knew they were going to play well together, and we knew we were going to have to just straight kill bitches out there.

HL.COM: And that you did! Tell me about the change in your team’s play since your previous game against the Fragglestickcars.

CG: Well, in our first game, I think everyone was just going crazy and had tunnel vision straight to the net. We all just wanted to score goals. But this time, we started to work better together, had some good passing, obviously finished our shots better, and we had much shorter shifts so I think everyone was feeling a little more fresh. And plus, the other team had tons of chicks on it, so I think everyone was skating extra hard to impress them, but also to make sure we beat them. We [definitely] didn’t want to lose to girls, that would suck.

HL.COM: Being 2-0 now on the season, what do you think is the likelihood that the Wally Do’s will go undefeated and win the championship in late April?

CG: Pshh! Slap a Midas guarantee on that ass! Looking at some of the other scores around the league, it looks like the Iceholes might bring something to the table… but I’m going to go ahead and just ruin that dinner party, cause I’ll be bringing the heat and anything with the name “ice” in it, doesn’t do well in heat, catch ma’ drift? Yeah, I can already taste the champagne pouring out of the Cup into my mouth, and all over dem’ white bitches.

So there you have it folks! The Wally Do’s will be Spring Break 2010ing for the next few weeks, but while they’re soaking in the rays somewhere on a beach in Mexico, they will undoubtedly be looking ahead to their next match up vs. the Sig Alphs which will take place on March 30th, at 9:45 PM MST.
