School Resumes

We’re halfway through week 1 of school! I’m taking a variety of photo and film classes; it’s shaping up to be a great fall. I don’t have much to share at the moment, but I will share one nice blurb from yesterday.

We had just finished the standard day-one-of-school introductions in Critical Issues in Photography. Our professor then questioned us, “now, the names I’ve just listed here are indeed the names you wish to go by, correct?”

Interrupting the silence, he began to tell a story. “Good, because I had an experience once where a girl was in my class and her name was written as such on the roster.”

He made his way over to the chalk board and scribbled up in big letters, “Le-a.”

The class concensus was that \lee-ah\ (like the common name, Lea) could be the only logical pronunciation of this strange and unusual title.

But no!

The professor went on to explain that after nearly a month of addressing this girl as “Lea,” he recieved an e-mail and a follow up phone call from Le-a’s mother.

“My daughter tells me that you’ve been mispronouncing her name in class, and I wish that you would begin to call her by her real name,” explained the woman.

“Well, mam, Le-a hasn’t corrected me thus far, so I’m afraid I was unaware that I had the wrong pronunciation.”

The woman then stated, “well, that’s fine, but her name is pronounced \leh-dash-ah\.”

Whales All Over

Headed home from the Cape today. Spotted some whales along the way.

It’s easy to find the whales if you follow the whale watch boats.

These people are loving the whales.

 Look, they’re breathing.

 Hey, let’s hunt together!

 A whale tail!

We had seen enough and zipped away from the whale watchers.

Later on in the journey, we encountered a lone whale; we named him Whaldo.

34.jpg

Whaldo must have liked us, because he waved at us for a very long time.

In reality, Whaldo was likely turning on his side and slamming his pectoral fin on the water repeatedly to stun his prey.

We saw some whales breaching, but totally missed the shots. Enjoy this video as a substitute.

Sand Bars Are Neat-O

Headed to a sand bar outside of Wellfleet Harbor this afternoon; the sands are only accessible at low tide. You must be wary here, for if you do not pay careful attention your picnic basket, its contents and your tanning-self will be consumed by the tide.

It’s a great spot for snorkeling, seal-watching and collecting neat-o rocks and sea shells.

Killah’ Day Out On Da’ Watah’

We had boat-loads of fun zipping around Cape Cod Bay today.

Sea-salt in the air, long hair flowing in the wind, whales everywhere, fish aplenty, turkey sandwiches, sunshine galore…

This is the ultimate vacation.
I’m the most handsome boy in the family.

I wore this whale earring in honor of the day.

Keeper is excited to see some whales.

Thomas caught a blue fish on his first cast of the day.

I bet this blue fish wishes he picked something else to eat for lunch.

 We saw humpbacks.

Then there was this nice sunset! That’s Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown.

Cape Cod Adventure

Dad and I zoomed across Mass Bay to the Cape today.

Encountered some nasty weather, saw some whales, and caught some stuff along the way:

- 2 small sharks (pain in the ass to deal with)

- a seagull (real pain in the ass to deal with)

- a nice striped bass (dinner)

We’ll be here for a week.

 Map of our route.

I was really excited about this brand new colorful lure… but I lost it.

 It’s a keeper.

Summer Break 09′!

It’s like Spring Break 99′, but ten years later! And it’s August!

Thereby, this vacation is more futuristic than Spring Break 99′ (which is rad because the future is rad), and it’s also hotter than Spring Break 99′ because there is no denying that August sees scorching heat unlike anything March ever produces.

That being said, we’re certainly in for a thriller!

I’m back home in MBTS, and it’s most enjoyable.

Hangin’ on the dock with Willis.
