Down Days In Dillon

CBS came by the house today to shoot a follow-up interview with me for the ALT Games Show which will air sometime in early May. I’ll be sure to post the television schedule when I receive it.

After the interview, we kicked back and relished in the idea that we didn’t really have to do anything for the remainder of the day.

To pass the hours, we spent considerable time puttering around the house; we cleaned, did some computer work, washed our cars, etc… This evening, we headed out to Blockbuster and rented seven DVD’s.

Looks like our plans for tomorrow are all taken care of…

The Telus Recap

Each April, Telus comes storming into Whistler Village.

For twelve straight days the town goes into overdrive; visitors truly enjoy a marathon of good times. This year was no exception…

Telus 09′ came complete with forty-five free concerts, ski and snowboard events galore, filmmaker showdowns, pro photographer showdowns, fashion shows, an onslaught of legendary theme parties and much more.

We were treated to exceptional weather this go-round; the sun shone down on us each and every day and it made for a heated week.

A big highlight for me, and ultimately the reason I ventured out to Telus, was the World Ski Invitational Big Air. After battling my way through some tough qualifying rounds, I landed in the finals where thirty skiers jumped in front of a wildly energetic crowd, 15,000 strong:

A crowd gathers for a show. The big air jump is under construction in the background. We had some practice before the Finals began. Here I am waiting to drop in the start ramp. Joss and Banks get some practice in before the competition. As the sun sets on the night of finals, people begin to pour into the village. The stage is set for a big show.
Looking down at the jump. 15,000+ crowd. Ready for the show. Hotel balconies and bar in the village fill up with spectators. Dropping in!
Austin Ross catching some air. This is me, catching air. Here I am again in the finish corral. Nice.

As the Big Air concluded, so too did my time competing at the event. For the rest of my time in Whistler I was able to sit back, relax and enjoy the show; and what a show it was…

Monster Energy was kind enough to put me up in the Hotal Adara with my man Petey. If that weren’t enough, they really went out of their way to ensure that our week would be fun-filled to the brim.

I spent the rest of my days with an awesome crew; we enjoyed more fun skiing/boot skiing on the hill, fantastic musical performances and some of the most memorable group-meals to date. Breakfasts, lunches, dinners fit for a king!

The after-parties weren’t too shabby either; check out Petey’s update for some fun late night debauchery.

Below are some images from my digi-cam and also some shots I stole from the web:

Hotel Adara. Monster took over the whole hotel, pretty pimp. The front desk. Loungin' in the lobby. The slowest elevator in the world.
Monster takeover at Sushi Village. Cute. Yum. Yes. Epic.
Chelse and me. Libby is boss. Longhorn. Rocker party.

I’ve included some shots here that I shot on my Holga camera. The photos didn’t turn out quite like I imagined they would, but they’re still fun and I hope you’ll get a feel for the Telus experience.

Sorry to post so many! Hope you’ve got a few minutes to browse through them all:

Here we are at the top of Whistler Mountain. This big guy is the new mountain man that will host the Vancouver Olympics in 2010. The new Peak2Peak Gondola. It's a pretty big drop down from here. The Hotel Adara took great care of us. Marg and Reed loungin'.
Marg loungin' again. It's not gay if it's with your friends. Peter in the pipe. Crap photo. Looking down the pipe. Crap photo. Harvey gets the shot. Tom James takes a much needed nap after a long day of skiing.
There were people resting here too, but I made them come outside to shoot a photo... Here they are! After naps, we'd join up and head out for some après fun. Pitchers at the Longhorn. Shots of beer is all the new rage.
Back in the room watching playoff hockey. Reed Holm. Riddle. Matt Margetts. Metric rocks the crowd.
Sea of people. Looking down. Why don't they have these in the States? TJ likes steak in his morning ceasar. Olive eyes.
Symms and Annie kissing in public. Symms and Annie smile for the camera. TJ, Byron and Fergie. Group shot after an afternoon at Earl's. Nicole and Alana sledding on trays.
Nicole and Alana. Quiet before the storm. Cruising through the village with friends. Margetts offers to sign TJ Schiller posters for passersby. That sign behind him reads 'TJ Schiller impersonator.' Breakfast at Moguls.
Our last afternoon at the Longhorn. Petey sprawls out. Reed hooks up his headphones to this shot of beer. The world's slowest Burger King. Squamish, BC. Headed home.
Petey on the plane. Back in Boulder. Brian Schroy Chatting on the phone with chicks, no doubt. Same old, same old.

Back In Boulder

Sitting here with Shaywill watching playoff hockey on TV.

Dropped off my photos from Whistler to be developed today.

Hoping to have them up tomorrow night to accompany a recap of our trip.

No more photos today, shot on the Holga… again.

Reed Holm says about today, “today was the ranch that I dip my pizza in.”

We’re having the time of our lives.

No time to write much; we’re always on the move here.

The Bruins took series 1 with a 4-1 win against the Canadians today; nice.
