Copper Adventure

Michael Clarke and I are currently staying with Chug in Copper.

No time to blog right now… The hot tub and Buck Hunter are calling.

Laps Through Freeway

I ventured over to Breckenridge again today with Megan and Michael O.

As a die hard Keystone fan it’s difficult to admit this… but the jumps in the Freeway Terrain Park are very, very pleasurable.

Snapped some pics and shot some vid’.

Check it out, and stuff.

Fat Skis, Fat Tuesday

The storm that kept us inside yesterday yielded nearly a foot of snowfall in Keystone. We awoke early this morning to a blue sky and wasted no time kicking it into gear.

Willis and I headed up to the Outback and spun some hot-laps before meeting up with photographer Chip Kalback.

The three of us shared many runs together. Chip, being the hot-shot that he is, undoubtedly sequestered a memory-chip full of fantastic images; I hope to share some of them with you soon.

Later on in the morning, the Olenick siblings joined in the fun.

Our slightly-larger crew enjoyed small crowds, deep snow and bright sunshine.

We eventually made our way over to the A51 terrain-park to meet up with skier extra-ordinaries Simon and Luke.

Our now even-more-larger crew continued to slide rails and find trannies late into the afternoon. It was only when our legs practically began to buckle underneath us that we called it quits.

I’ll come right out and say it…

Best ski day so far this year.

Took The Day Off

Snow has been falling all day long here in Summit County. We opted to take a day off from skiing to attend to some very important business; i.e. writing postcards, cleaning the house, icing sore parts and stopping by Dos Locos for some happy-hour grub and a lil’ Buck Hunter action.

Dos Locos, for those of you unaware, is a fine Mexican food establishment at the base of Keystone Mountain.

Each day, between the hours of 3-6 P.M. skiers and boarders flock to the restaurant  for the après happy hour.

Upon arrival, it is customary to visit the chips and salsa station. The restaurant serves these chips for zero cost, and the baskets are refilled every few minutes to satisfy the hungry herds.

After stuffing our mouths full of chips, we opt for a $6 pitcher of PBR. That’s right, $6.

And when it’s time to order food, we choose between $1 tacos (chicken, beef, or bean in a soft or hard shell) and the $1/3 wings deal.

The food is tasty, the atmosphere is electric and of course, when we’re all through eating there is Buck Hunting to be had. It all seems too good to be true.

Today, Shay, Michael, Willis and I set out on a $10 trek through the heart of Africa.

Not long into the adventure, young Willis (whose total score after 7 rounds was matched by all three of the other competitors in said 7th round alone) threw his rifle down to the ground in a fit of frustration; the gun broke and our play came to an early end.

I was very disappointed; I was well on my way to a new personal high score.

It’s alright, however. There’s always tomorrow, and in the world of Buck Hunter the wild-game is always plentiful.

Hot News: All The Latest From Summit County

Some of you may be aware that I had a laptop scare this past week. I’m pleased to report that my awesome-apple has been repaired and is consuming the majority of my free time once again.

This is what a hard drive looks like. Working Again! Finally able to hang with the crew once again.

In other news, Norwegian ski-chick-superstar Mille Windfeldt has been staying with us and she’s leaving today; Mille is en route to Japan and we hope she will return SARS-free and chalk full of stories. Mille had the following to say about our gang:

“You guys are all such nice people, and you’re way more fun to hang out with than Norwegians.”

Thanks Mille! Travel safe.

Also, big-ups’ go out to Robert Ratto. Robert was nice enough to bring me a Dr. Pepper on the hill the other day. Frankly, there’s no better way to say, “I care about you.”

Finally, be sure to check Shaywill’s story “A Weekend In The Mountains” for more words and photos.

Keystone Video

Shaywill and I have put together another masterpiece-of-a-video; this one showcases our fun day at Keystone.

Breckenridge, For A Change

I never like to make the twenty-minute trek over to Breckenridge, and here’s why:

-The parking situation is awful.

-It’s always windy.

-The lift that services their terrain park was built while Megladons roamed the Earth (it’s very old, and very slow).

Today, I was dragged over there for the first time this winter. We enjoyed ourselves, but I’ll be back at Keystone again tomorrow.

Shaywill put together a short video of our day. Enjoy.
