The sun had already set behind the peaks of Breckenridge when JP and I resumed work on our massive snowman this evening. After some immaculate shaping and some addition to his mid-layer, our creation is beginning to take form. Our hope is to create his head tomorrow, let it freeze overnight and then set it on top come Saturday. With some decoration and some grooming he could in fact be the largest and most handsome snowman in all of Colorado. He’s currently 10 feet tall.

Earlier this afternoon, JP Solberg and I began work on a snowman; we’re hoping to build the largest snowman in all of Colorado. After countless laborious hours, we have reached our halfway point. We have decided to let the snow harden overnight and we will continue work on our masterpiece tomorrow. We’re shooting for 11-12 ft. in height.
If you would like to see a picture of the world’s tallest snowman, go here.

I’m sad to say it, but the North American Open is done. Despite unfavorable weather conditions, it was an incredible event.

On day two we were graced with glorious weather, and an all day “jam-style” qualifier decided who would advance to Saturday’s final round. The format allowed skiers to show their skills all day, unlike other events where riders are alloted 1-2 runs for qualifying. The new style adopted here at the North American Open is pressure free, it was much more enjoyable than the other events we’ve done in the past. If the awesome format and pristine course weren’t already enough, they served scrumptious lunch to all the riders to break up the day.

Day three brought snow and wind, not exactly the ideal conditions for a slopestyle contest. The show went on however, and we battled the weather for the three-run final. Competitors were crowded at the top of the course by the waxing tables; getting that extra speed made the difference for many riders who had trouble clearing the jumps in the new snow.

On the fourth and final day, the halfpipe competition took place. Again, we saw strong winds and heavy snow; but just like the day before the event went on, and skiers were able to take their runs between breaks in the storm.
The best part of these events is that it brings everyone together. For a few days, we enjoy the company of friends, skiing during the day and then spending time together enjoying the venues that host these awesome events. After great days on snow, countless dinners and fun parties this event goes into the books as one of my favorites.

After a full day of practice, day one is in the books. The event has been a ball thus far. We went out to a lovely dinner last night with some of the newcomers, the park is pristene, we had great weather today, and to top it all off I bought a three pound bag of gummy bears to eat on the hill tomorrow! Below you’ll find some pics: amongst others, Willis Brown clearly enjoying his bread, the beautiful weather this morning, my power breakfast of eggs and ibuprofen and a shot of the course from the base of Breck. Look at how glorious those jumps are! Tomorrow is slopestyle qualifying; everyone is excited and it should be super-D-duper!

The North American Open began today in Breckenridge. The slopestyle course was open for training, and we took a few runs through to check things out. The jumps are massive and they’re perfect. A lot of work went into the course, and it certainly payed off as this is one of the best slopestyle courses I’ve ever seen. The waxing table in our basement is seeing plenty of action this evening; everyone wants to make sure they have plenty of speed to clear the jumps tomorrow. Check back later this week for pics and video from the event.

I’ve discovered that if you dip an oreo in a glass of milk on a spoon, instead of with your hands, you can let the oreo soak in the milk for an extra long time making for an extra soggy oreo; it’s delishious!

It was a lovely weekend here in Breck. The sky was blue, we had tons of people stay at the house, and we had extravagant home-cooked meals and biscuits for breakfast, lots and lots of biscuits.
