I stepped out onto the balcony of our apartment, as I do most every morning, to gage the temperature, scan the skies and plan my dress accordingly. But today, Monday the 6th of September, I looked up to see a massive cloud of smoke billowing out from the hills just a few miles to our West. It looked ominous, but at the time we certainly did not assume that three days later… the fire would not be extinguished, and that it would continue to pose a great threat to the Boulder community.
But that is how things stand. As of this morning the Four Mile Canyon Fire, as it has been dubbed, has ravaged nearly 6,400 acres, destroyed 169 homes and displaced 3500 residents. In terms of property damage, it is the worst fire in Colorado history.
The fire has been designated a Type I emergency, which means it is a national priority. As many as seven Slurry bombers have been flying out of Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Broomfield dumping tens of thousands of gallons of fire retardant in the area to hamper the blaze. More than 300 firefighters are on duty, and in addition to the fire itself they are endangered by downed power lines, propane tanks, steep terrain and rattlesnakes.
Today, the fire is only 30% contained, and strong winds forecast this afternoon threaten to fuel the inferno. Our thoughts are with the people who have lost their homes, and with the men and women who are battling the blaze. May this beast soon be tamed.

We’ve had three straight days of howling winds and sideways rain here in HBTS… so what better to do that burn some calories in the comfort of the Smeallie’s living room? I began by creating my very own Wii Fit character… and then I underwent some body tests. I discovered that my body-mass-index rating is “normal” and in fact, not “overweight”… so Shay, you have no business calling me Fat Hank anymore… Anyways, I got to the games, and burned mad calories… the Wii Fit is awesome.
He looks just like me.
I dominated the obstacle course.
I am that.
I got to wear a fancy crown.

Another weekend is in the books… and that leaves only one more weekend of East Coast hanging before I head back out to Boulderado.

Wednesday afternoon went like this…
HMA car service comes to your home and takes your car away to clean it… they leave their car in your driveway for the day. Needless to say, this guy got a huge f’ing tip.
Willy and his til-til… precious.
Talk about precious!
You can’t read the odometer from here, but it says 95 mph. And we’re breaking the law by not wearing helmets… Badass? I think definitely Oh wait, we’re riding a vespa, my bad.
But the pool, complete with snack bar, now, that is super badass.
The ladies at the pool go gaga for Willis.
And then we play bananagrams, @Shay_will I’m gunning for you.

By now, many of you have seen this awesome video shot by Chuck Patterson… but for those of you who have not, it’s worth having a lookski. Ultra neat.

And while on the subject of sharks, maybe you’ve heard this epic-tune by V.V. Brown? It’s our summer anthem.
